The Future of Event Apps

The Future of Event Apps

What You Need to Know

By now you’ve probably heard about changes to Apple’s App Store Guidelines and its impact on event apps. Specifically, Rule 4.2.6 stipulates that “apps created from a commercialized template or app generation service will be rejected.” This means that Apple will no longer allow companies to produce white-label event apps. At Zerista, we believe changing to a universal app model, in which all accounts and events exist within container apps, will be beneficial to everyone–event owners, event tech vendors, and especially attendees.

Unless you’re an app developer, you may not be familiar with what these terms mean or how conference attendees will access Zerista. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

• Container Apps are vendor-branded apps that contain a company’s various events within them. This means that all Zerista’s events, for all our clients, will be housed under a single app called Your Event powered by Zerista. After registering, attendees will receive a special, personalized link to download our app from the Apple or Google Play Store. This link will automatically sign them into their specific event. Attendees can also utilize search functionality to find their event. Once logged-in, attendees will only see information for the events they’re registered for.

The deeply branded experience you expect from Zerista is not changing. Though we won’t be able to brand or personalize the app icon or app name, the branded experience will begin at the login screen. Everything else will stay the same.

• Mobile Web Platforms are highly optimized mobile web pages, which means no download is necessary. Conference attendees can access the Zerista mobile web platform through the web browser on their phone. After login, attendees will see many of the customized features available on the app.

While the industry might be changing, Zerista’s commitment to highly personal event experiences, industry-leading technology, and exceptional customer service will never change. We’re excited about the universal app model and for the opportunity to pave the way forward with a more modernized, efficient app delivery system.

As always, please contact us with any questions or concerns. We are here to help!
